Trade Mission Trip to ArgentinaDuring April 16-20, 2018 a delegation of the State Bar of Texas – International Law Section traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina and met with organizations, companies, and lawyers as part of a cultural, business and networking exchange. The trip was organized by Gabriela Smith’s law firm which served a vital role in connecting Argentinian lawyers with their U.S. counterparts.

The week-long trade mission included nearly 10 hours of CLE credit, visits to various cultural, educational and iconic landmarks in Argentina such as visits to the Supreme Court of Argentina, Office of International Relations and Investments of the City of Buenos Aires and Ministry of Modernization, Innovation and Technology, and Universidad de Buenos Aires (Buenos Aires Law School), to name a few.

Legal topics discussed during the CLE presentations included: A View of International Legal Issues in Argentina; Understanding Argentina, Historical and Legal Highlights, Its People and Its Politics; Background of Industry and Commerce in Argentina – Top Exports, Economic Outlook, and Political Issues; Regulatory Framework in Energy Matters; Latest Decisions of the Supreme Court; How Texas and Argentina Can Work Together; Overview of Doing Business in Argentina: Legal Framework, among various other topics.

The trip also included time for fun with cultural excursions to the landmark “Recoleta” neighborhood, Santa Fe Avenue, Teatro Colón and Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, to name a few.

While in Argentina, Gabriela also gave a presentation to CESSI titled, “Doing
Business in the U.S.,” which was attended by various Argentinian software
companies.
